Mulgrave is a residential suburb 24 km south-east of central Melbourne between Glen Waverley and Wheelers Hill. Prior to being the name of a suburb, Mulgrave was a shire and before that a parish. It is thought that the surveyor gave it the name in honour of the Earl of Mulgrave, Secretary of State for the Colonies, Six years later the shire was renamed simply Mulgrave. Further excisions were made for enlargement of the Oakleigh municipality, and the Mulgrave shire 60 sq km became Waverley city on 11 April The Mulgrave shire offices were at first in Oakleigh, and then at Notting Hill from to The shire was described in the Australian blue book :.
Oakleigh township was surveyed in but the remainder of the Mulgrave area was mainly used for grazing. During the s the area was settled by small farmers, some of whom gained a little from prospective miners making their way to the Gippsland goldfields.
The main eastwards routes, however, were Ferntree Gully Road and Dandenong Road, and the area that is now Mulgrave lay between them. Highly recommended for families. Perfect location among the outer east suburbs of Melbourne. Close to 3 shopping centres. Child care centre about 1KM form home.. We are very happy.. We have been living here for 1 year now.. Highly recommended.. Too expensive! I am going to sell my Mirvac home soon due to the terrible traffic in the morning. Also if you bought land you could build a cheaper nicer house doing it yourself than Mirvac ;.
Ronnie if you are looking to sell let me know at my office on 03 and ask for Courtney, i would be happy to help. I will be happy to buy Ronnie one less negative person in the neighbourhood. I've been living in Mulgrave for the past four months and loving it. I have previously been living in the west most of my life and I can honestly say I am now very happy to be living in the East.
Mulgrave is a central haven for everything you could possibly imagine. There is waverly gardens for shopping, there are heaps of stores on princess highway, heaps of eateries at springvale and central city walk plus cinema, there are GP's and dental practices everywhere, public transport is close by and there are heaps of schools around.
Mulgrave is close proximity to almost everything. It is also a safe area aswell and neighbours are all friendly. The property prices here are also going up so if you looking for an investment then Mulgrave is a place to buy aswell. My property already has increased in value since four months ago. Nice if you enjoy trafffic, footy, small blocks and over priced blocks that won't CG until ???
Look else where if investing,if buying with your heart,by all means :. Greenerpastures please name one suburb in Melbourne or Sydney which does not have traffic issue and over priced new townhouses that looks more like shoe box. Lets accept the fact the face of Melbourne is changing rather you are part of it or not. I bought a new house but it is quite close to transmission tower. Is it safe? Can someone give me an Italian description of our lovely neighbourhood, fellow Mulravians?
